They remain family owned today and have received Trophies for their impressive wines.

30 years later, they have converted fully to organic viticulture, with certification from 2023 vintage.

New Zealander Barry Riwai is the winemaker. With a fascination for Rhône wines, he is well suited to produce this elegant Kiwi Syrah.

Marlborough on South Island has been key in bringing Kiwi Sauvignon to worldwide prominence. Thanks to its brilliant sunshine and cooling coastal breezes, it produces wines with intense purity of fruit. It’s more restrained and elegant than most, almost European in style. That's down to the winemaker - Kiwi-born Rob Cameron has done many vintages all over Europe. Endlessly refreshing, with gooseberries, citrus and passion fruit, and a mineral elegance that's reminiscent of the Loire, it's a perfect seafood wine.

Martinborough may be less high profile than other Kiwi wine regions (it's only small) but the quality of its cool climate wines is second to none. It lies in the southern corner of North Island and is renowned for Pinot Noir. A government report in 1979 had highlighted that the conditions of the region were remarkably similar to Burgundy – free-draining gravel soils, with moderate temperatures and rainfall. Jeremy Corban and Katherine Jacobs founded their beautiful family estate in 2005, after a wine stint in France.

They chose a site in Martinborough's Te Muna valley and planted Pinot Noir. This is their gloriously fragrant, expressive flagship wine. Aged in new oak, it has a lovely balance of ripe fruit, spice and savouriness. Open early.
